Carnoustie Golf Resort
Golf has been played at Carnoustie Golf Resort since the 1500’s but the Championship Course
did not come into its full 18-hole form until the 1920’s. In 1926 the famous architect James Braid redesigned the course
and for the most part has been unchanged ever since. Many courses may update and change their layout to stay competitive with
the modernization of golf, but Carnoustie was designed as a challenging course in the 20’s and it still remains one of the
most challenging even today.
Also at the Carnoustie Golf Club are the Burnside and Buddon Links golf courses. The Burnside course is a true test of a
golfer’s spirit for the game. The back tees provide a challenge that is on par with that of the Championship course.
Notoriously known for it’s superbly difficult Par-3’s that will leave any golfer scrambling to make par. The Buddon
Links course is the newest course to be built at Carnoustie. Established in 1979 and designed by Peter Allis and Davis
Thomas, this course is the epitome of links courses. With picturesque greenside bunkers, there are many holes one the
course that will test the accuracy or lucky depending on the golfer.

Padraig Harrington
In
2007, Carnoustie played host to the
British Open (won by Padraig Harrington).
Here is what some of the pros had to say about the Championship Course:
"The golf course is hard, but it's fair. I think it's a fantastic test." -
Tiger Woods
"I didn't realize what a wonderful golf course it is. It's terrific!" -
Phil Mickelson
"One of the toughest and best links courses that we have in the world." -
Colin Montgomerie
"It's got length. It's got great bunkering. You have really got to have your wits with you to play this golf course. It's
probably the best bunkered course that you'll ever find anywhere in the world." -
Ernie Els
"There isn't a player who didn't find the course a test and enjoyed that test. Credit to Carnoustie, it's one of the best in
the world." -
Padraig Harrington
