Tour Results - April 16, 2007
EUROPEAN TOUR: Volvo China Open
Austrian Markus Brier started the final round with a 1 shot lead over Australian Scott Hend and it looked like it was
going to be a tight affair all the way to the end, but Brier birdied two of his first 3 holes to increase his lead. Despite a
dropped shot at the 4th Brier birdied the 8th and 9th as well to move well clear of the chasing pack. With no one making a move
over the final 9 holes to put any pressure on Brier he was able to par his way home before he ended things in style with a
final birdie at the 18th. This gave Brier a 10 under-par 274 total and a 5 shot victory over Hend, Northern Ireland's Graeme
McDowell and South African Andrew McLardy.
PGA TOUR: Verizon Heritage
High winds with gusts to over 45 mph during the final round meant this week's event was forced into a Monday finish as
Sunday's final round was suspended. Jerry Kelly leads the way with a 1 shot lead over fellow American Kevin Na and Ernie Els.
LPGA TOUR: Ginn Open
Mexican Lorena Ochoa and England's Laura Davies started the final round 4 clear of the field and it looked like a two horse
race for the title. With high winds blowing, scoring was always going to be tough and going into the back 9 Ochoa and Davies
were still ahead of their nearest competitor Brittany Lincicome. Lincicome hung in there and after Ochoa double bogeyed the
13th and Lincicome birdied the 14th she was amazingly only 2 back of Ochoa and one of Davies. Ochoa then bogeyed the 15th and
16th holes to fall back tied with Lincicome one back of Davies. Lincicome parred the 17th, but a bogey at the 18th looked like
ending her chances, however an amazing finish was about to happen. First Davies finished double bogey, triple bogey and then
Ochoa double bogeyed the 18th to give Lincicome a 1 shot victory and a most unexpected win.
NATIONWIDE TOUR: South Georgia Classic
With the wind blowing hard on the longest course ever used to host a PGA Tour sponsored event at 7,781 yards, 12 players were
within 4 shots of the lead going into the final round and it was anyone's to win. The lead changed on a number of occasions
and when American John Kimbell double bogeyed the 10th hole he lost the lead. Australian Matthew Jones took over but a bogey
at the 12th dropped him one back until a birdie at the 14th brought him level with Kimbell again. It was down to two men and
Kimbell took his chance when he birdied the 16th to move one clear. Jones could not answer and both men made par on the final
2 holes to give Kimbell his first Nationwide Tour title with a 1 shot victory with a 10 under-par 278 total.
