PGA TOUR: Buick Invitational
Tiger Woods won his third straight Buick Invitational and his 7th consecutive PGA Tour event with a 2 shot
victory over Charles Howell III. As others struggled over the back nine, Howell kept with Woods and with a
birdie at the 15th reduced Tiger's lead to a single shot. Woods came right back with a majestic birdie of his
own at the 17th to move 2 clear. Howell found the par-5 18th with his second and with Woods having to lay up
from the fairway bunker Howell had a chance to tie. Woods played his third that spun back off the green onto
the fringe, but Howell has then unable to convert his difficult 50 foot eagle putt to tie. Woods chipped up to
3 feet and tapped in to finish on 15 under-par 273 and record his 55th PGA Tour victory.
EUROPEAN TOUR: The Commercialbank Qatar Masters
Retief Goosen eagled the final hole to snatch a 1 stroke victory over Australian Nick O'Hern. Goosen was 2 back
and looked out of it with 2 holes to play, but a superb 9 iron at the par 3 17th set up a birdie to cut O'Hern's
lead in half. After a superb tee shot up the par 5 18th, Goosen hit a great three wood to the back edge of the
green. O'Hern found a bad lie off the tee and after pitching out hit his third onto the green some 70 feet away.
O'Hern was first to go and putted up to within 3 feet and it looked like a play-off, but Goosen had other ideas
and rolled in his right to left breaking 35 foot eagle putt to finish on 15 under-par 273 and take the victory.
CHAMPIONS TOUR: Turtle Bay Championship
It was the Fred Funk show this week as Funk shot his second consecutive 8 under-par 64 to finish on 23 under-par
193 and record a record 11 shot victory. Funk started the final round 3 clear and 6 birdies in an outward half of
30 gave Funk an 8 shot lead and it was then just a matter of how many. Tom Kite reduced the lead to 6 on the back
nine, but he finished double bogey, bogey to end up tied a distant second with Loren Roberts, Tom Purtzer, Dennis
Watson and Kiyoshi Murota. Funk ended things in style with a 2 putt birdie at the last for his record setting
victory.
NATIONWIDE TOUR: Movistar Panama Championship
Argentina's Miguel Carballo recorded his first win on the Nationwide Tour with a two shot victory over Jim
McGovern, Hunter Hass and Patrick Sheehan. Carballo started the final round 5 back of the lead, but 3 birdies on
a day of difficult scoring got him into contention and when he made three consecutive birdies from the 11th he had
the lead. A further birdie at the par-3 17th secured victory for the Argentinean and despite a bogey up the last
Carballo had finished on a wining 6 under-par 274 total.
