Tour Results - May 7, 2007
EUROPEAN TOUR: Telecom Italia Open
After the event was reduced to 54 holes because of the bad weather, Spain's Gonzalo Fernandez-Castano started the final
round 5 back from the leaders, but an inward half of 6 under-par 30 set the clubhouse lead at 16 under-par 200. Austrian
Markus Brier joined the Spaniard on that mark with 2 birdies in his last three holes; however it still did not look like being
enough until a late collapse from Nick Dougherty. Dougherty came to the final 9 holes 3 clear, but was unable to keep his lead
and a bogey at the 17th ended his hopes. A play-off was now needed to decide the winner and the first extra hole was halved
after Brier lipped out for a winning birdie. Back to the 18th they went and this time Fernandez-Castano hit a superb approach
to 5 feet. Brier just missed his birdie putt, but Fernandez-Castano was able to hold his nerve and roll in the winning birdie
putt for his third win on the European Tour.
PGA TOUR: Wachovia Championship
After his tee shot some how stayed out of the water at the par 5 7th, Tiger Woods took full advantage and hit the green
with his second shot and then rolled in the 60 foot eagle putt to take the lead. Further birdies at the 8th and 9th moved him
3 clear and it looked like plain sailing to another Tour title. Uncharacteristically a bogey at the 10th from inside 80 yards
and then a 3 putt at the 13th for double bogey brought the field back to Woods and when Steve Stricker birdied the 15th, he was
tied with Woods for the lead. Woods regained the lead with his own birdie at the 15th and then entered the final 3 holes, the
most difficult on the course. Stricker could not keep things going and after a double bogey at the 16th, he then found the
water on the 18th to end his hopes. Woods was able to play the last three holes in 1 over par to claim his third win of the
2007 season with a 2 shot victory over Sticker with a 13 under-par 275 total.
LPGA TOUR: SemGroup Championship
On a very tight leader board it looked like tour veteran Julie Inkster was going to take the title when she birdied the 18th
to set the clubhouse lead at 3 under-par 210. However, South Korean Mi Hyun Kim had not read the script and after she made
birdie on the 16th hole and saved par on 17 came to the last 1 clear and needing a par to claim victory. Kim left herself a
five footer for that par, but was unable to convert and so a play-off with Inkster was needed. Back to the 18th they went and
Kim found the fringe with her approach before Inkster, from a lot closer, hit over the green and found the rough. Inkster was
then able to pitch down to 6 feet before Kim rolled her first putt nearly stone dead. Inkster however was unable to hole her
par putt to leave Kim with a simple tap in to claim her 8th win on the LPGA Tour.
CHAMPIONS TOUR: FedEx Kinko's Classic
Scott Hoch started the final round with a three shot lead over D.A. Weibring and it came down to who could make the most
birdies between them. Weibring made his move with 4 consecutive birdies from the third, but Hoch somehow kept his lead with
his own birdies at the 3rd, 6th and 8th. Both players bogied the 9th as Hoch stayed 2 clear entering the final 9 holes. Still
2 clear with 5 to play, both players birdied the 14th before Hoch moved 3 clear again with a birdie at the 15th. Weibring came
right back with a birdie at the 16th but just ran out of holes to catch Hoch. Hoch parred the final 2 holes to finish on
15 under-par 201 and claim his first win on the Champions Tour.
NATIONWIDE TOUR: Fort Smith Classic
Forty year old Jay Williamson shot 7 under-par 63 in the final round to claim a 1 stroke victory over Justin Bolli and
Garrett Willis and claim his first win on the Nationwide Tour. Bolli had started the final round 3 clear, but could not get
anything going as Williamson made his charge through the field to take the lead. Bolli hung in there and after making birdie
at the 17th tied Williamson who had finished on -16 264. Needing a par up the last Bolli found the greenside bunker with his
approach, but was unable to get up and down and made bogey to fall back into a tie with Garrett Willis for second and so give
Williamson his maiden tour title.
LADIES EUROPEAN TOUR: Tenerife Ladies Open
Australian golfer Nikki Garrett captured her first win on the Ladies European Tour with a 2 stroke victory over Spain's Tania
Elosegui and English golfer Trish Johnson. Garrett started the final round tied for the lead, but did not get off to the
greatest of starts when she was forced to play a provisional ball from the first tee. Luckily she found her first ball and
made par. Birdies at the 4th and 7th gave Garrett a 2 shot lead going into the final 9 holes, but after a bogey at the 15th
she was tied with Elosegui. Garret though would not be denied her first win and with a birdie at the 16th and 2 pars to finish
with claimed her maiden tour victory with a 1 under-par 287 winning total.
